You are a short walk from the famous tram 28 that goes through Lisbon’s 7 hills. Our apartment is located in the frontier of Alfama and Baixa (Down Town) two of the most noble and characteristic Lisbon neighborhoods. Alfama is one of the most typical neighborhoods in Lisbon with its narrow streets and alleys where you can experience the way real people live , and listen to Fado while savoring a traditional meal at the best Fado Houses.
Baixa (Downtown), with its square blocs got its rational configuration after the 1755 earthquake that destroyed part of the city. The Prime Minister at the time (Marquês de Pombal) planned it just like it is now.
You are close from almost everything that matters, going up the street you will pass through Sé de Lisboa- – one of the most important churches in Lisbon. If you keep climbing you’ll arrive at Largo Portas do Sol with its amazing view to the river, Alfama and the Panteão.
On your left facing the river you can explore Typical Alfama, on your right the ill with the castle, worth a visit for its magnificent view all over the city among other tractions in the inside.
If you decide to leave the house and going down the street, you will go in the river direction. You are 2 minutes from the Saramago (literature nobel prize) Foundation. Following the River you will reach Praça do Comércio, the most beautiful plaza in town, with its recently open to the public Arch .From there you have all Downtown in front of you.
The most famous street is “Rua Augusta” a pedonal street just in the middle. If you follow this street you will pass MUDE – fashion and design Museum, you will end up in Rossio and Praça da Figueira other references in Lisbon. Close to Rossio you will find another icon of Lisbon’s architecture – Rossio Train Station. If you are a starbucks fan you can find one inside the station. It is here that you must take the train if planning visiting Sintra
If you want to visit some of our famous patisseries you will find them here. Confeitaria Nacional and Pastelaria Suiça. Close form there you have “Elevador de Santa Justa” beautifully made of iron– you can go up and enjoy the view and than leave at Largo do Carmo or you can just pass by and arrive in Chiado
Chiado is maybe the most cosmopolitan neighborhood. You can find nice stores , restaurants , cafés, the Museu do Chiado – Museum of Contemporary Art, Igreja, Teatro S. Luíz, and so on. It is a really pleasant place to walk around.
Close to Chiado is Bairro Alto. Despite the new rules that closes the pubs and restaurants at 2 a.m., this is still mandatory if you are going out. During the day you can find here small stores with different and alternative products in the evening it is the largest concentration of cafes, restaurants and pubs in town.
